02 febbraio 2021
Sono tre anni che sogno questo giorno. L’ho bramato e
desiderato ardentemente, con tutta me stessa. Ed è finalmente arrivato. Eppure

blog.
«Mi raccomando, eh» mi dicevano in tanti: «Non
E poi
allora no, allora non è vero.
Star peggio rispetto a cosa, poi?
vissuto in silenzio, altrimenti perde credibilità.
A volte, invece, del dolore bisogna parlare. Perché a tenerlo
Proverò a parlarne. La voglia c’è, le energie meno.
Proverò a non lasciar passare altri tre anni.
A presto, spero.

I’ve been
dreaming about this day for the past three years. I craved it and yearned for
it passionately, fully. And it’s finally come. Yet, I am not quite sure what I
should be doing, I am frightened and disoriented. I feel like I’m supposed to
be introducing myself for the first time in front of a bunch of strangers. I’ve
got the impression I am behind a closed door; I am just outside a room where
there is some kind of group meeting going on – is it a rehab facility? I feel
lost. I don’t have the courage to go in, not even to knock, but I’m not
leaving. As if I hoped someone came out and pushed me in with gentle vigour,
pulling my hair while caressing my cheek at the same time.
As if they
were trying to tell me I should get out of the cave where I’ve been holing myself
up for the past three years: the light does hurt the eyes but it warms the skin
too and yes, there’s people out there and I’m scared of people but no-one is
going to judge me nor hurt me.
There is
nothing new here, though. I’m doing what I’ve been loving the most since I can
remember – I should be at ease, but I am not.
February 5th, 2021
I am so
uncomfortable I’ve spent three days trying to write this. I hadn’t even felt
this stuck when I was writing my dissertation. I don’t have the ability to synthetise
information and I have always been used to write and write and write, like a
river of words in flood – with no dyke whatsoever.
I wrote
nothing for three years. Me – the one who loves to write, the one who’s better
at writing than she is at breathing, the one who spent years writing every
single day; on a social platform, on a notebook, on this blog.
«Promise, huh» many
used to say to me; «Promise me you’ll never stop sharing your stories, you do
make me cackle.»
I used to talk about
anything, I used to narrate every single tiny detail that would go through my
mind even for a couple of seconds. I need to note this down – I would think.
And then I would open the note app on my phone and from a small idea I would
elaborate an endless post. I wrote about journeys on a bus and about the
biggest love I’ve ever felt as if they were the same thing – I used to write
about these topics with the exact same passion, because the true passion, at
the end of the day, was for what I was doing rather than what I was describing.
I was indeed writing and there was nothing else I wanted to be doing.
I haven’t been writing
anything for three years. I disappeared from Facebook: I used to be online
every single day and now I don’t even have a profile picture.
I’ve been feeling
really unwell. I am not fine.
Often… Often is not
enough: many, many, many times I wished I could write, I wanted to write. I
mean, if I was able to get a laugh out of a bus line 58 journey description,
how come I didn’t make a post about that one time in Leeds when I fell off my
bike, slipping on ice, and I broke my elbow? Four years ago I would have
written a bildungsroman with sprinkles of sarcasm and self-criticism topping.
Yet, in the past three
years I simply had no strength. I kept an illness inside, an illness so deep it
took all the energies away from me.
It is hard to find
honest confessions: I am feeling bad, but I talk about it. Actually; I feel bad
and I talk about it.
As if only those who’ve
already defeated it or have only read about it in books were allowed to talk
about pain, because who’s able to talk about it, is not really feeling it then.
If you talk about it, if you can say you’re not OK, then no, then it is not
true. It is not really true; because you have the strength to open up about it,
therefore it can’t be as painful as you’re trying to make us believe.
The years we’re living
in don’t help either. Because there’s Covid and there’s always someone feeling
worse then – they tell me. «You’ve got a job and you’re physically healthy –
you’ve got everything,» they scold me. So if someone’s doing worse than me, I
am not allowed to feel unwell? Worse than what, exactly? Who’s entitled to set
standards when it comes to something so personal, intimate and heartfelt like
pain?
I’ve got a job, I do
not have Covid, yet I am not doing fine. Right, I said it.
As if true pain was
meant to be kept silent, or else it loses credibility.
Sometimes, instead, we
need to talk about pain. Nothing but mould can come from a pain that’s been
kept locked in a broken soul: it rots and it makes us go bad too.
Sometimes we need to
talk about pain because there’s other people out there who feel it too.
I will try and speak
about it. I have the will, I can’t say the same about the energies though.
I will try not to be
silent for another three years.
Speak soon, hopefully.

RispondiEliminahey bea! I could feel every single word of that post. I too have been unwell and in pain but with no outlet. Girl, I know it is real even when you are physically fine. It hurts enough to make you wonder how is my body looking normal right now. Thank you so much for speaking out for not just yourself but for people who are in pain. Love you, and call me if you want to talk. Shruti 😘😘😘
